Movie poster analysis-2012

The 2012 is a very well designed poster which straight away catches the audiences attention straight-away through its disaster themed graphic imagery. The massive crater in the earth makes us think of earthquakes which is an unstoppable force of mother nature, one of the size of the one in the poster would be catastrophic.
The name catches our attention almost immediately as it is a reference to the Mayan calendar prediction, almost everyone who had access to a computer at the time knew all about the date 21/12/12 the supposed doomsday apocalypse after the Mayan calendar ran out.
The release date is bold and is in the middle of the poster making it the center of attention, this means that the audience straight away know the one detail they need to know if they are interested in the internet campaign.
The cars in the poster show the distress in people as all the cars are driving away from the danger. The human will to survive is essential to the plot as the world around them crumbles they need to gather whatever courage they possess to get to a safer place.
The caption "we were warned" is a prominent part of the poster as it foretells what could have been if we were prepared for the ongoing extinction, the size of the words means they don't necessarily catch the attention of the audience straight away but when people do see it, they have a question planted in their heads most likely "warned about what?". This question can gain an audience for the movie because people would like to see how warnings and doomsday coincide side by side.
