Movie trailer analysis-Mission impossible

Trailer starts like any other with the MPAA (motion picture association of America's) rating of approval to show that the film is indeed legitimate to be shown. It shows both Paramount pictures and skydance studios before the trailer even begins to make sure the credit is duly shown to the respective organisations who put effort into making the film what it is. They are at the start of the film for the sole purpose of making the audience think, for example paramount is a very well known with films such as Jackass, anchorman and TV shows such as spongebob and so their audience is quite worldwide. As well as the other two Bad robot is also apart of the distributing team and therefore they make it an even better spectacle.

The first shot we get is an establishing shot of the protagonist's base in an American city. The first bit of narration used is there to tell us this is a continuation of the first as it says the "IMF (impossible mission force), this directly relates to the last film through a few words, The first shot we get of a character is of Jeremy Renner meaning he has an important part to play in the overall plot of the film, the fact he is shown first leads us to believe that he is the main instigator of any mission which may be given to them. The next few shots are of the other characters who are significant to the plot, especially with Tom Cruise as he looks towards the camera to add some dramatic tension to he's motorbike race.

The film establishes itself as an action film when during the bike chase it shows a motorcycle crash and burst into flames. This gives the audience the impression that the film will be all about action, crashes, chases and a direct motive for striving to battle. After this the bike chase it also shows a gun fight to make sure the audience know what they are getting into.

The quick pace of shot changing really puts pace into the trailer and makes us feel like the film is actually a thriller and will have constant action throughout. The slamming of the gavel during the over the shoulder shot of the judge, The fact that he hits it so hard is almost like an initiation for the music to drop. The sound then continues through the next scene to coincide with the shot from the anonymous man as well as Tom Cruise banging on the glass.

It says "last time we saw him he was tracking the syndicate", the emphasis on the word "syndicate" is used to tell members of the audience that the name "syndicate" is indicative to the plot as well as possibly being a constant presence throughout the whole film.

It then establishes our first female character through a well choreographed fight scene that sees her join forces with Ethan Hawk,  The shot reverse shot between Ethan and the woman is important as it shows they have a bit of chemistry. The next part of the trailer is a bit of advertising saying "this summer" meaning they want people to be aware from June onward's that the film is due a release.

The next shot shows Simon Pegg walking down a train platform when he is handed a package, the camera then zooms in on the glasses to look at the microchip in them, this helps the audience to realize the true purpose over being handed the glasses in the first place.

Once again Tom Cruise uses the term "syndicate" and this time says their real, this could mean that people don't believe him or his evidence into an investigation concerning this so called "syndicate". He then quotes the name of the movie "rogue nation" to truly emphasize the title so people don't forget what film they should be looking out for this summer. It then show a series of images showing this so called crime syndicate and then zooms in slightly on who we presume to be the leader. The rhetorical question used "are you ready" is useful because it deems it to be like a secret service movie, especially seeing its a question you know the answer will be yes to thus starting the movie.

It then shows another close up of all the main protagonists to further establish them into the unfolding story. Including the woman from before who is now firmly on the protagonist side, it then goes back into some more action type chase scene with weapons to further show that it is indeed a horror film.

We see another fight scene to further show that the film will be packed with action followed with different types of technology being used to display and innovate different ways to kill select targets, it then show both Tom Cruise and the woman flying down a rope almost like an escape from a high pressure situation.

It also shows more quick paced shots of the actual mission which includes close up, medium, long, panning and many more, this includes a high free fall jump as well as a slow motion low angle shot of a car going down a flight of stairs in reverse.

The music then starts to pick up a bit into the normal mission impossible theme tune along with the shot which makes the movie the most famous with the plane scene. This is because Tom Cruise chooses to do his own stunts, this creates a lot of publicity over the film as people think this is more of a job for a professional.

It then says Tom Cruises name in bold red letters on a black screen to show that it is indeed a film he has produced and starred in. The last thing it shows in an exact date when it comes out (July 31st) as well as a few more credits to the different companies such as Fandango and sky dance again.
